J. Philip Dowd and his partner, Arthur J. Buckley, ran a small real estate and insurance brokerage firm on Essex Street in Lawrence, Massachusetts, from the late 1940s until Dowd’s death in 1977. It was called Buckley & Dowd Real Estate and Insurance. Their office was on the third floor of the Bay State Building. After Arthur Buckley died in the late 1960s, the business was called J. Philip Dowd Real Estate and Insurance. Arthur Buckley did appraisal work and the Franklin Associates collection is likely work he did for a client of theirs.

Franklin Associates Real Estate existed from 1932 to 1936 and was located at 373 Essex Street. All the properties referred to in the binder were owned by the Franklin Associates.
