(in album). - Note Majority of photographs of West Newton with handwritten captions describing photographs - The Newell family moved from Colrain, Massachusetts to West Newton, leaving their farming roots to become successful merchants, inventors, and manufacturers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The family photograph album shows family members, their houses (interior, exterior and grounds), family homesteads, farms, mills, views from their Boston offices, and their West Newton neighborhood. - An elderly man with beard, two women, a boy and a girl beside the falls in front of mill building, caption: Uncle Hamlet Wight, brother of Grandma Clarissa Wight Plimpton, and his daughter Alice by the Ellen Curtis's saw mill near Medfield Junction, he operated the sawmill for Aunt Ellen, Hamlet Wight's sister, in addition to running his farm.
