Gymnastics dress parade at Springfield College, ca. 1920

A photograph of 120 students of the International Young Men's Christian Association College, now Springfield College, in gymnastic attire in Judd Gymnasium, ca. 1920. The students stand in 8 symmetrical rows of 15 men across accompanied by 13 men in white shirts and bow ties. The students are uniformly dressed in dark pants and dark long-sleeved jerseys with the Springfield College logo on the front. The college’s logo, the equilateral triangle representing body, mind and spirit, was created in 1889 by faculty member, Luther H. Gulick, a pioneer in physical education and recreation. The Triangle became the Springfield College's official symbol in 1891 and in 1897 was adopted the YMCA’s official symbol.
