Description

View from across the South Branch of the Nashua River

from the site of the remains of Holbrook Mill on the left bank looking

towards the Cowee Grist Mill on the right bank. The Holbrook Mill, owned

by Eli W. Holbrook, Oliver Eldridge, and Linus M. Harris, milled cotton

sheeting and employed fifty hands. This area of the town was called

Central Village. The image shows the Nashua flowing over the dam at

Cowee's Mill and under Holbrook Street and the Cowee Bridge. The land and

buildings in the foreground have been cleared to make way for the

construction of the Wachusett Reservoir. Circa 1895-1905.
