Description

In November 1887, the Hernando Fuller Farm on North Chestnut Street in Springfield, MA was purchased for the construction of a new building for Springfield Hospital. The hospital opened in May 1889 and accommodated fifty patients in three wards and several private rooms. Nurses and nursing students were housed on the third floor. This photograph shows four nurses surrounding a piano in 1903.
