Description

Reading room with delivery desk, catalog, fireplace, hanging clock, and the location of the bookstacks. Watertown Free Public Library. The prototype statue of Charles Sumner is done by Anne Whitney. The public statue is in Harvard Square. There are stuffed birds on top of the shelving units the first being a Pelican behind the chandelier. See the art work on the walls above the fireplace - the one on the right is a watercolor of peonies by Ellen Robbins. Notice the light fixture as it will change through the years. There is a gate next to the desk to prevent the public from going into to the book stacks. The front of the desk also changes through the years.
