Description

Metal plate with shield of Massachusetts, and dates 1630, 1930, inscribed: "Watertown. Settled by Puritans in 1630 under the leadership of Sir Richard Saltonstall and the Rev. George Phillips who stood firmly for religious toleration and the right of the people to a representative government. Massachusetts Bay Colony Tercentenary Commission." Richard Saltonstall was granted 558 acres and is considered the founder of Watertown. Located at the corner of Mount Auburn St. and Coolidge Hill Road in Cambridge. Photo by William W. Carnes.
