Description
Town Hall, Lenox Barber Shop and Nourse and Barnard store. [Dry goods, glass, crockery and fancy goods, [near Town Hall]. Joel Barnard Jr. owned the building that housed Nourse and Barnard. Charles Lenox was the flag bearer for the 54th Regiment under Col. Shaw. At the beginning of the war he refused the offered bounty for enlistment, and afterward, he refused to accept a pension since he had not been injured. Father and son carried on a barber business on Main St. for decades before and after the Civil War. Town affairs were carried on for ten years without a Town Hall.
