Description
Image of Civil War veteran and Hopkinton G.A.R. C.C. Phillips post 14 member Michael F. Danahy. He wears dress coat, spectacles and bow tie. His hat has the G.A.R. badge on it a lapel has G.A.R. button. Type written label indicates he served as a landsman on a gunboat in Neipsic. The G.A.R. group formed in 1882 and disbanded around 1929, the group met regularly on Church Street. His photo was framed with 35 photographs of other veterans of the war and was on display in Hopkinton Public library till 2011. The post was named for Charles C. Phillips of Hopkinton. Note G.A.R. wreath membership badge on his hat and G.A.R. lapel pin.
