Oakley house, rebuilt in 1808 by Charles Bulfinch as a summer house for Harrison Gray Otis. He sold it in 1825 to William Pratt. In the 1890's it became the Oakley Country Club. The house burned in 1962. One of the wealthiest men of Boston during his time, Otis was reportedly worth at least US $800,000 in 1846, which in 2010 would be equivalent to $5.6 Billion. Otis was elected U.S. Senator from Massachusetts (1817--1822), and then Mayor of Boston (1829--1831).
