Subject

St. Malachi's Church (Hopkinton, Mass.); Church buildings-Massachusetts-Hopkinton; Historic buildings-Massachusetts-Hopkinton

Description

Image of wooden church building from the main entrance with bell tower and turrets. It is enclosed by a picket style fence and people are assembled in front of the fence. An article by Clement Meserve indicates that building construction began in 1851 through efforts of Reverend Edward Farrilly of Saxonville. It was Hopkinton's original Catholic church and was located at #12 Cedar Street at the site of the home of the then late Attorney Edward Carr. New construction on the next Catholic church, St. John's began in 1876 and eventually replaced St. Malachi's Church by the late 1880's.
