In the House of Representatives. Jan. 7. 1778
Whereas it has been represented to this court that many persons inimical to the cause of the American States who went off with General Stow at the [avacuation] of Boston or at other times have Left that place or other parts of this state and joined our enemies are attempting to come into this state from places now in possession of our enemies - crossed out words - therefore to prevent the [evills] which may arise from such attempts being put in execution it is ------- resolved that the [Hon ble] council be they are hereby desired to write to govenr- Cooke of the State of Rhode Island & to general Spencer - commanding the Troops in the Service of the American States doing duty there, desiring them to prevent any person without the consent of the [Hon ble] Council of this state - and that the [Hon Ble] Councill be further desired to take all such further steps to prevent the return from any other place whatever of any person who has Left the State as aforesaid unless such return be by their Leave or the permission of this Courts -

Resolve of Court of the House of Representatives in the State of Massachusetts given on January 7, 1778. The resolve states that citizens who fled the State of Massachusetts during the evacuation of Boston with General Howe and from other parts of the state during the Revolutionary War should be prohibited from reentering the state without the leave and resolve of the State of Massachusetts.
