Ernest B. Dane House (Pine Manor)
Description
Originally the Cox Estate, designed for Mr. and Mrs. William E. Cox, built between 1889 and 1891 on Heath Street, included stables, barns, and other outbuildings. Historically called Roughwood, it was enlarged in the early 1900s by Ernest B. Dane. E.B. Dane was a Harvard educated banker and president of the Brookline Savings and Trust. He retired to his gentleman's farm in New Hampshire. The estate is now home to Pine Manor College where many of the school's buildings are original to the estate and have been renovated to accommodate the college. The Ernest and Helen P. Dane house is now the Ferry Administration Building
