Item Information
Title:
Nash Hill Schoolhouse restoration diptych, c. 1971-86
Description:
This pair of photographs shows the one-room schoolhouse on Nash Hill in Williamsburg, Mass., which was in use on its present site from 1786 until 1917. The pictures were taken during and after its restoration by the Williamsburg Historical Society, to which the building and its small lot were given by the adjoining landowners in 1971. After 15 years of extensive repairs by many Society volunteers, it has been open to the public as a museum on an occasional basis and at other times by appointment since 1986. It was featured in a June 4, 2011 tour of historic schoolhouses around Massachusetts sponsored by Storrowton Village Museum. It is furnished and equipped more or less as it was around 1900-1910. The people in the photographs have not been identified. Each photograph is 3.5 x 3.5 inches.
