The Lane/Mead Boston Maritime Collection at the Boston Pubic Library was funded by Arthur Lane, of Peabody & Lane, Steamship Agents, to document the 20th century history and development of the shipping industry in the Port of Boston, Massachusetts. Items were donated by Peabody & Lane, Patterson & Wilde Steamship Agents, Moran Shipping, The Boston Shipping Association, and P&O Nedlloyd. Photographs of events related to the mid-20th century Port development, taken when Mr. Lane was its President, were donated by the Boston Shipping Association.
