Lawrence Public Library
Lawrence, Mass. Before Redevelopment Photograph Collection
The Lawrence redevelopment of the late 1960s included a section of mostly residential properties in an area north of the high school and the common. The neighborhood chosen was bound from White to Lawrence streets and ran from Haverhill Street just west of the high school to Maple Street. The houses were replaced with the Breen Funeral Home, St. Anthony’s Church, and public housing. Sometime in the 1970s, an adjacent area to the east and just north of the public library came down and was replaced with O’Connell Park.
