This group of girls in their school uniforms is flanked by their teachers. These uniforms were worn regularly to school and if Bulgarian custom is any guide, the mothers had to purchase them or make them themselves. This practice was subsequently abandoned. "Each group was decked out in some sort of costume and went through its paces in front of the reviewing stand. Only about half the groups were dressed in patriotic trimmings. All the costumes were of crepe papers including red, white and blue; groups of tiny children were waving wreaths and streamers of the same colors. A group that spelled out Tito and there were also older children who did gymnastics with red, white and blue hoops and ropes."
