Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción purchased the former Shawmut Congregational Church which had been gutted by fire in 1978, and developed a 27-unit mixed-income condominium project on the site. They called the new building Taino Tower, after the original inhabitants of Puerto Rico. The condos were ready to be put up for sale in 1991. The project maintained the church tower and the church's original arched doors.
