A crane and construction debris indicate that work has begun on the construction of Taino Tower. Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción purchased the former Shawmut Congregational Church which had been gutted by fire in 1978, and developed a 27-unit mixed-income condominium project on the site. They called the new building Taino Tower, after the original inhabitants of Puerto Rico. The project maintained the church tower and the church's original arched doors. The condos were put on the market in 1991.
