Back of pegbox finished flat with incised pattern of half circles at lower edge. Two-piece belly of spruce or pine. Painted purfling, interrupted at top of back by series of four crosses and dots. Later ebony tuning pegs, fingerboard, and tailpiece. Interior construction: Neck block replaced with modern, half-round type, but platform carved from back for original footed neck. Note associated with cello/ bass viol: "This cello belonged to Ammi Cutter of 62 Pleasant Street, Arlington. It was given to his great granddaughter Helen F. Winn in 1890. She became a professional cellist and used this Cello in 1902 with the 'Fadettes', Womans' Orchestra, which played at B.F. Keith's Theater. The Cello was used in the Arlington Unitarian Church before the days of the pipe organ. It is now presented to the Arlington Historical Society by it's owner Helen Winn Smith (Mrs. Francis R. Smith) in honor of her many Arlington ancestors." Signed: Helen F. Winn Smith Case (1B) is made of brown canvas with pockets.
