Ayant eu l'heureuse idée d'aller passer le printemps à la campagne.
Title (alt.):
Having had the happy idea of spending springtime in the country.. Charivari
Description:
A couple has gone to the countryside for their spring vacation, unfortunately it is raining. The New York Times published in its issue of Feb. 15, 1918 an article "An Exhibition of Prints from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts". It describes the Museum's decision to sell duplicates of their collection on Feb. 19. Among other artists they were also selling prints by Daumier. A description of the lithograph is as follows: "... Lovers of Daumier will particularly relish his drawing of a couple who have had the happy idea of going to the country for a Spring vacation, and sit well wrapped up at the window watching the storm-beaten landscape. It is a brilliant example of his happiest style in which the dreariest of human commonplace is turned to sparkling comedy."
