Copy of a Letter sent to Mayor of New Bedford [March 29, 1864] "To the Mayor and Alderman of the City of New Bedford Gentlemen, Edward Plowin, a resident of West Cambridge in the year 1859, 1860, 1861, was taxed in West Cambridge and paid his taxes in the year 1860 + 1861; he enlisted as a volunteer in the service of the United States in the year 1861 and reenlisted as a veteran volunteer in the 23rd Mass. Volunteers Company D as being from New Bedford. The Town of West Cambridge claims him for the above reasons as of the Town quota; he also claims himself to be a resident of this Town in a letter to Samuel Butterfield, one of the Selectmen. The Selectmen of West Cambridge call on you to furnish us with what evididence you claim him as one of your quota. Dated at West Cambridge March 29th 1864 Washington J. Lane, chairman of the Selectmen of West Cambridge Middlesex SS April 4, 1864 This personally appeared before me Washington J. Lane and made with that the above statement in time. [?] E.
