Photograph of Helmut Hirsch's gravestone in Stuttgart, undated
Description:
It was a popular practice in Europe to take photographs of monuments, tombstones and portraits and the photographer would create postcards. This postcard which bears the image of Helmut Hirsch's grave in Stuttgart could be used as a memorabilia. Kate (Catherine Sugarman) has provided a translation of the text that is found on her brother's tombstone. The text "König über sich selber sein" (To be King over yourself) comes from a poem that Hirsch used as an introduction to his last diary. Kate has noted that Hirsch's last diary is missing. Kate has provided a complete translation of the poem. She also notes that the image on the tombstone is the symbol for the Jungenschaft (dj.1.11.).
