Item Information
- Title:
- "International YMCA College, Springfield Mass: Sketch for Future Development" (1926)
- Description:
-
A photograph of a hand colored architect drawing was done by E.C. & G.C. Gardner and the Olmsted Brother Landscape Architects. It shows a sketch for the future development of the International YMCA College and was done on September 9, 1926. Watershops Pond, now Lake Massasoit is shown on the bottom, left side of the picture with the buildings and pathways in front of it. There are many buildings shown and the pathways connect each one. Notice how it incorporates early buildings into the new design, including Alumni Hall (just recently completed), Marsh Memorial, Judd Gymnasia and Woods Hall. The Administration building has been removed and Gladden Boathouse has been removed. The plans are hand colored. The designs were never used by the college. Design numbers, 637-22, are in the lower right hand corner. Olmsted Brothers Company was a landscape architectural firm in the United States. There is also a sketch of these plans that more fully integrate how the established buildings will be used in the plan. It can been seen here: http://cdm16122.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p15370coll2/id/9353

A few of their more famous designs include the Great Smoky Mountains and Acadia National Parks, Washington States Northern Hospital, Harvard Business School, John Hopkins University, and Stanford University.
