This group photograph depicts the participants of a YMCA International Convention at an unknown location. It is believed it was held sometimes in the 1880’s. The setting of the photograph appears to be in a big theater. Men are shown standing and sitting for the portrait. According to customs of the time, some of them are looking away and some of them are looking straight at the camera. Notice the banners next to them. George Williams appears sitting in the middle of the photograph. George Williams was the founder of the YMCA in 1844. He maintained a lifelong affiliation with the rapidly-spreading association, providing influence and financial support.
