Letter from Brainerd Taylor to James B. Taylor and Harriet M. Taylor
Description:
Brent discusses his new promotion to full colonel and expresses his desire to be known as one of the founders of the Motor Transport Corps. He wants to meet with Frank Richardson, who is at base port now, but he can't get a week's permission until he's been there 4 months. To his sister, Brent talks about the necessity of distracting oneself from the war with frivolity and how everyone copes with it differently. He's been harsh to reprimand soldiers before, which has broken down their camouflage to reveal "tear filled eyes trembling like and true hearts lying bruised and all but broken at my feet." He tries to judge sparingly and by results, not appearances. He warns her to be careful of condemning any girls who might be acting like they don't understand how serious the war is because they might be hiding their real pain.
