Believes he may have set up Foote's confrontation with the FBI. "they called me out of the blue, and spent two hours with me. I knew Ken [Stevens?] had a very important job relating to China, and as such would be a target for all the pro-McCarthy's. I knew nothing but good about Ken, but I knew some details which, by themselves, might look bad. So I resolved to tell absolutely all I knew. This I did, and at the end of the interview they asked about the Liberal Club and the city election -- of which I knew little or nothing.... From their questioning of me, I got the idea that someone had been trying to torpedo Ken, but that they were rather satisfied that it was unjustified...."
