- C'est moi, qui r'grett'rai c'te mode là.... ces belles dames me font tous les jours plus d'moitié d'mon ouvrage!....
Title (alt.):
As for me, I don't mind that style there... every day these ladies do more than half my work!. Charivari
Description:
A man sweeping the streets watches a woman in a long skirt walk by and is pleased to see that her skirt does his work for him by sweeping the dirt off the streets. CRINOLINES. In 1855 the first crinolines appeared on the streets of Paris. This new fashion was to remain “in” for more than 10 years. Maybe Ramus described the situation best:” The fashion designer Worth created for his female clients hoop skirts which over the years constantly increased in size. He was obviously following the trend of the period by creating crinolines which were quite extraordinary in size, of no practical use …. and they fitted perfectly into this period of extravagance and exuberance of the second Empire.
