In this print, Thiers representing the Bonapartists is trying to derail the train from Paris to Versailles, representing the new republican change, by putting a railway sleeper on the rails. The Government as well as the National Assembly had left the capital and ran the provinces from Versailles. The Charivari interrupted publication between April 22 and June 12, 1871.
