Title (alt.):
John F. Finerty Letters
Olver Wendell Holmes, Jr. Letters
Description:
John Finerty was an attorney for railroad companies in the Midwest. After 1927, and beginning with the Sacco-Vanzetti case, he was involved in many civil liberties cases. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Civil Liberties Union and of the Workers Defense League. In this telegram to Justice Coliver Wendell Holmes, he informs Holmes that the attorney's for Sacco and Vanzetti will be hand delivering a petition that differs from the previous petition Holmes denied. This letter shows the amount of research Russell conducted in writing his book. This letter and others found in the collection offer scholars an insight into the efforts taken by prominent figures and everyday citizens for justice for Sacco and Vanzetti.
