A note from E. Dickinson to Edward Hitchcock informing him that the Directors of the Hampshire and Franklin Rail Road Corporation have decided to assess all shareholders of the corporation to assist with paying their debts. "Edward Hitchcock Rail Road 1848" has been written on the verso.

It has been inferred that E. Dickinson refers to Edward Dickinson. The signature at the bottom, confirming receipt of payment from Hitchcock, could not be deciphered.
