A sermon by Edward Hitchcock discussing the concept of preparing a path for the coming of Christ. Hitchcock explains that to prepare this path there are obstacles that must be removed in the church and also in the hearts of individuals. He lists several obstacles for each of these two divisions. Hitchcock explains that the church must remove contentiousness among its community, church members must speak to each other about spiritual matters often, and they must not forsake their sabbath gatherings. Obstacles within individuals include a lack of self-examination, a love of the earthly world, a lack of zeal for promoting the glory of God, and others. Isaiah 40:3 is quoted. Hitchcock has noted the dates and locations where he delivered this sermon on the first page.
