Title (alt.):
Charivari. Famouuuuuus jury for the paintings Composed From a composer, an astronomer, a mathematician, several architects and a chemist. - The chemist (yawning) in the ba .... c .... k ana ..... lyzez..... that since there is no painter in the jury! Why don't we just proceed to lunch.
Description:
The artists were questioning the quality of the Jury responsible for the acceptance of the pictures to the exhibition as well as for the distribution of prizes. They reproached the Jury to stick to the old rules of the Academy instead of promoting new artistic development. In this picture the members of the Jury are shown as follows: an astronomer gazing sleepily into the distance, another one taking measures of the pictures with a compass, while a third one is yawning and the fourth concentrating on playing the violin. The last member is already leaving for lunch.
