L' ACTEUR - Il était votre amant, Madame! (Bravo! bravo!) Et je l'ai assassiné! (Bravo! bravo!) Apprêtez-vous a mourir! (Bravo! bravo!) Et je me tuerai après sur vos deux cadavrrres!... UN TITI - Ah! ben, non, alors! Qu'est ce qui porterait le deuil?

Title (alt.):
THE ACTOR - He was your lover, Madame! (bravo! bravo!) And I killed him! (bravo! bravo!) Prepare to die! (bravo! bravo!) And I will kill myself on top of your two corpses!... A KID - Ah! um, no, well! Who would mourn at the funeral?
Description:
The audience applauds and cheers as an actor reveals his murderous deeds and intentions, while a kid in the audience is upset that if the character continues to murder other characters no one will be left to attend the character's funeral. CROQUIS DRAMATIQUES CROQUIS DRAMATIQUES PAR DAUMIER CROQUIS DRAMATIQUES par DAUMIER Under these names a total of 22 numbered prints appeared in the CHARIVARI between Dec.12, 1852 and March 12, 1853 ; September 24, 1856 and May 23, 1857 ; April 13, 1864 and July 2, 1864. These prints give an insight to scenes behind the stage which were previously unthinkable, thus demystifying in a charming way the image of the actor. Even a Caesar or King Richard is dealing with the little problems of everyday life. There exists a similar painting (see DR 7142) which however has been attributed to the year 1860 by Maison.
