A booklet called "Ventilation Studies at the International YMCA College, Springfield, Mass. The booklet contains articles reprinted from the December 1913 American Physical Education Review. It includes four articles, including: "Description of ventilation plant, international YMCA College, Springfield, Mass." by George Affleck, "The Efficiency and Economy of Recirculating and Washing Gymnasium Air" by D. D. Kimball, a consulting engineer, "Studies upon air washing at International YMCA College, Springfield, Mass." by Melville C. Whipple, and "Ventilation of Gymnasia," by James Huff McCurdy. The articles speak to the air ventilation system installed in the new West Gymnasium in Judd Gymnasia on the campus of Springfield College. Built in 1910, it was said of the gym that “the most notable feature is the ventilation equipment. Judd Gymnasia was the first building erected on the new land purchased for the YMCA Training School, now Springfield College, along Massasoit Lake in Springfield, Massachusetts. Morrissey and Shea’s Corporation completed construction on the building in September of 1894 and it was formally opened on October 26, 1894. In 1910, trustees authorized the addition of a second gymnasium and swimming pool. The McCurdy Natatorium, a gift of Standard Oil President Herbert Pratt, who requested the pool be named after physical education department head Dr. McCurdy, was completed in April 1913. It was closed on March 18, 1968 and the swimming pool was replaced by Linkletter Natatorium. The Natatorium was remodeled and has served as a dance studio, weight room, the college bookstore and finally, in the spring of 2011, as the Springfield College History Museum which also includes the YMCA Hall of Fame.
This booklet is a reprint of articles published in the December, 1913 American Physical Education Review. It is not known who reprinted it, but it is thought to have been done by Springfield College
