This case was an influential state supreme court case that brought fair housing to the state of Michigan. Freeman Moore was refused the right to purchase a home run by the Beech Grove Investment Company because he was black. Moore filed a complaint with the newly formed Civil Rights Commision in Michigan. Carl Levin was his lawyer who worked on the case with him.

Mr. Moore was part of the college’s football and lacrosse team, he also was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega and the Varsity Clubs, and he was a secretary of the Student Council. After graduation he went on to get a masters degree at Columbia University, and was educator and football coach in Brooklyn and later in Detroit. In Michigan he was involved in an influential state supreme court case in Michigan, known as the Beech Grove Investment Company vs. the Civil Rights Commission of the State of Michigan, that brought fair housing to the state.
