Letter describes settling in to their new camp and housing situation in France. Their lodging is less comfortable than in England, and they only get one pitcher of water a day unless they tote more up by themselves. They live on the same "C" rations as the army men. Maida describes the utter devastation of the landscape, the sparse amenities and services, bed bugs, lack of a proper bathroom, and watching people trudge back through the ruins to see what remains of their homes. Certain words from the letter are redacted by cutting them out from the page.
