Phil tells Harry that in Helen's last letter she finally mentioned her engagement to him. He's writing to Harry from the Garden City Hotel, which he hiked 4 miles to reach in order to have a much-needed bath. He asks Harry if he knows how Aunt Annie has reacted to Helen's engagement, but guesses she must be delighted. In the meantime, Helen will be a teacher, but Phil anticipates that the next time he writes to her it will be under a different name.
