Phil is glad to have finally heard from Helen, and he lets her know that although he had to be away from home, he had a very nice Christmas with the company. They've been hard at work building since they arrived in France and his living conditions have never been better. It does take almost a month to receive mail now, so all the news he gets is already ancient history. He was glad to receive some clothes from Helen although it hasn't been cold enough for him to need them yet. He reassures her that he thinks she made the right choice in her marriage to Jay and that she has no reason to feel regret and he hopes she never will.
