This lantern slide, “Batting I (c. 1900),” shows a baseball player standing with his legs apart and holding a bat in the air. He is likely a student at the International YMCA Training School (now known as Springfield College), which taught, among other subjects, sport skill instruction for the high jump, long jump, pole vault, discus, javelin, shot put, football, swimming, lawn tennis, baseball, basketball, rowing, and volleyball.
