From 1953 to 1954, he served as director of physical education at Nichols College in Dudley, Massachusetts. In 1954, he started directing the special athletic programs at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. Moutis was awarded his doctorate from the University of Oregon in 1967 and completed additional graduate work at New York University, Seton Hall, and Columbia University. In 1977, he was offered a position as the director of health, physical education, and recreation at Springfield College. In 1984, Moutis traveled as a representative of Springfield College to Japan and Hong Kong, where he organized workshops on physical education. Across his life, he was sought as a consultant on a number of special athletic construction projects. One such request took him to Athens, Greece, where he advised the Raytheon Corporation on a proposed two million dollar recreational complex.
