In the last 20 years the population of Orange County has mushroomed. With the county projecting nearly a half million new residents by 2020, transportation officials are scrambling to make way for future growth. To alleviate traffic in south Orange County, the toll road agency might extend the Foothill Toll Road. Because the road would cut through some of the county's last remaining open space, the project is encountering stiff opposition from environmental groups. KPCC's Ilsa Setziol has the story.
