Scientists are just beginning to assess the environmental damage caused by the recent wildfires. The picture varies, depending on whether you're looking at the mountains or lower elevations. The Simi Valley fire blackened more than 100-thousand acres of shrubland, and killed or displaced an untold number of animals.
