Oral history interview with John R. Falante on November 20, 1985. Biographical Note: John Falante was born on the island of Madeira in the Azores. He traveled by ship to the United States in 1920. He immigrated to the United States in hopes of making enough money to help support his family back on Madeira. Upon arrival, he quickly got a job at the Tremont Mills. Scope and Contents: Interview conducted by Paul Page. Mr. Falante discusses his immigration to the United States, work in the mills, the Great Depression, learning English, meeting his wife, living in boardinghouses, holidays within the Portuguese community
