Mourning painting made by Sophia Cutter in 1810. Adult woman and three children are standing around an urn on a large base, with a dog in front of them. A willow tree is hanging over the left side of the urn. There is a pond in the bottom left and some buildings in the mid ground. The foreground is green hills and the background is empty. Done in greens, browns,golds. Some isolated highlights are possibly made of gold leaf, especially on spire of left most building. Painted on fabric, described as velvet, but does not appear to have much plush. In deep wood frame with minor decorations. Framed in 1990 by Jacqui Lee of "Artist at Work Framing" in Burlington, N.J. using acid free materials. Note found in pocket on back reads: This was painted by Miss Sophia Cutter in 1810 at the age of sixteen years. she was born in 1794. she married Moses Whitney of Boston Oct. 27 1816. This is 108 years old in 1918.
