Submission text: We came to Boston to watch our friend run what was intended to be her last marathon. As she an accomplished athlete, she completed in less than 3:30. Her post marathon tradition is to proceed to a bar for a beer and french fries, so we were sitting in the bar of the Fairmont Copley when we heard the first blast. Our initial thought was "that didn't sound good", but we didn't know what it was. When the second one went off, and we saw people running, we knew something very wrong had happened. Luckily for us, we were safe, as were all of our other friends who were running. We stayed where we were and became overwhelmed by the sound of sirens and seeing the amazing first responders go through the hotel. The next day, we went for a walk. One of my most vivid memories is the sound of the barks of K9 units as they combed the area of any other explosives. My friend decided that she didn't want her last marathon memory to be Boston 2013. So she's back. And so are we.
