Oral history interview with Manuel and Umbelina Figueira on November 19, 1987. Biographical Note: Manuel and Umbelina Figueira were both born on the Madeiran islands, where they first met. Manuel came to the United States in 1917 and Umbelina came in 1920. Scope and Contents: Interview conduceted by Barbara Fertig of the American Folklife Center. Mr. and Mrs. Figueira discuss their garden, the fight for the Lowell Connector, growing up in Madeira, working in the mills.
