The German astronomer releasing a famous rumor.. Charivari
Description:
An astronomer is letting a comet out of a cage. There is a play on words, as "canard" means both duck and rumor. The return of the comet Charles-Quint was predicted for June 13, 1857. It was expected to hit the earth and the end of the world was foreseen.
