James Rorty was a 20th-century American radical writer and poet as well as political activist. In 1927, Rorty was one of many arrested during protests against the execution of Sacco and Vanzetti. Francis Russell was an American author specializing in American history and historical figures. His research led to the award winning book \Tragedy In Dedham : The Story of the Sacco-Vanzetti Case\ (1962). In this letter from Rorty to Russell, he states he participated in the Boston demonstrations and knew most of the people who were arrested. This letter shows the amount of research Russell conducted in writing his book. This letter and others found in the collection offer scholars an insight into the efforts taken by prominent figures and everyday citizens for justice for Sacco and Vanzetti.
