Charivari. Be carrrreful, rrrogue rrrrepublicans!!
Description:
The print shows Jean Charles Persil (1785-1870), Louis Philippe, and the Duc d'Orléans, sharpening their sabres. Increasing Republican activity made the government nervous. Persil is watching the preparation of Louis Philippe and his son, Ferdinand, while they are sharpening their weapons before the beginning of the April hearings. He was fully supportive of the monarchic system, ready to hand out sentences which would eventually destroy the Republican movement.
